REMEMBERING ZACK
June 10, 2023
Seventeen years ago today, an unforgettable tragedy occurred. The 911 operator heard the frantic voices of young people as they blurted out, “Our friend disappeared! We can’t find him!” The sirens screamed as the Sheriff’s rescue team raced along the country road to the scene. Helicopters circled overhead. Arriving at the river, surveying the situation, the outcome was bleak. Heavier than usual rainfall that river with a snowpack that was now melting caused an extremely swift current that turned deadly on June 10, 2006.
The five young people who came to the river together, in anticipation of a fun afternoon by the river on a hot day, now began the silent ride home. There were only four friends now, dreading the calls that would have to be made to friends and family to share the unimaginable news that Zack would not be with them that evening.
Zack Harder lived life to the fullest. He didn’t know that this day would be his last. A new tribute video has been created to keep his memory alive … remembering him for the fun, laughter and determination that he shared with everyone around him. May we continue to think of Zack and carry him with us in our hearts, cherishing the memories that will bring a smile to our faces in the days, weeks and years ahead.
Zack's final resting place is Roseville Cemetery, Berry Street, Roseville, CA, located near Roseville High School where Zack graduated with the Class of 2003. Zack is featured in the RHS Centennial Yearbook as being one of the most spirited students ever to attend Roseville High.
Please sign the guestbook and share one of your special memories of Zack along with a photo or two.
