William Harry Blain

William Harry Blain, a dedicated family man, skilled project manager, and revered U.S. Navy submariner, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, in Sacramento, California. Born on July 13, 1937, in Oxford, Michigan, William’s life was defined by his unwavering hard work, generous spirit, and deep love for those who surrounded him.

William’s remarkable career as a Project Manager for A.G Spanos Construction showcased not only his intelligence and natural knack for problem-solving but also his steadfast determination. His colleagues admired how he seemed to know everything and could fix anything—a testament to his sharp mind and hands-on expertise. Beyond his professional skills, William was a man who found joy in building and working with his hands, whether it was constructing his beloved home in the mountains or enjoying projects that allowed him to help others. His time spent working on his Jeep and snorkeling illuminated his zest for life and adventure, while his daily four-mile walks in Hawaii spoke to his commitment to health and vitality.

A true patriot, William served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1973 as a submariner, achieving the rank of Master Chief E9 upon discharge. His military service was a source of immense pride, reflecting his dedication, discipline, and courage.

William’s heart was perhaps his most remarkable quality. He was known for his big heart, always ready to help others and offer support without hesitation. He cherished his family above all else, proudly witnessing the growth of his children: Chana Tiegs, David Blain, Suzie Stone, and Mary Blain. He was a loving presence in the lives of many grandchildren: Angela Hedrick, Jeremy Thomason, Suzanne Thomason, Nicole Rodriguez, Tabor Williams, Ashley Colombe, Seth Thomason, Kayla Kralewski, and extended his warmth to great-grandchildren Serenity Rodriguez, Taylor Hedrick, Mason Rodriguez, and Eliseo Kralewski. Through these connections, William’s legacy of kindness, strength, and love continues to inspire.

William’s journey was touched by the memories of those now departed, his parents, Helen (Taylor) Blain, and  Francis Blain, his beloved wife Lorraine Blain, whom he was married to for 68 wonderful years, his sister, Ester Macy; his twin brother John Blain, his sister Joan Hocking, and Louie, his loyal dog, who was no doubt a cherished companion, also crosses our hearts in remembrance.

Those who loved William will fondly recall his infectious passion for the 49ers and Chargers, his unshakeable family values, and his remarkable ability to make anyone feel accepted and supported. His intelligence and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

William Harry Blain’s passing leaves a profound void, yet his memory remains vibrant and enduring through the lives he touched. His story is one of dedication, love, and unwavering strength, a beacon of inspiration for generations to come. In every corner of the homes he built, the hearts he warmed, and the lives he shaped, William's spirit endures, forever cherished and deeply missed.
