Theodora "Teddie" Karen Schoenstein

August 12, 1945 — October 22, 2016

Teddie was born in San Francisco, and grew up in the North Beach neighborhood. At the age of 10 she had contracted the polio virus. She attended The Sunshine School for kids with polio, however that didn't slow that tomboy down. She later graduated from Mission High School in 1962 where she had met one of her dearest friends, Rose Grech (Carroll) and dated Karl Schoenstein, who she wed on June 1, 1968. Teddie worked for Miller Freeman Publications while Karl was in the military, and they later settled in Daly City. They moved to San Bruno, where she became dearest friends to their neighbors, Pat and Jim Lang. In 1974 Teddie gave birth to her first child, her daughter Jennifer. In 1977 along came her second child, Anthony, and from then on there was never a dull moment. Teddie worked as a stay at home mom for the most part until the kids were mostly in school full time, at the law offices of Cotter and Del Carlo. She was also very active in the children's school as PTA president, room mom etc., and was loved by all of her children's classmates. She had a very no nonsense, tough attitude at times, but beneath that she was very caring and generous. Teddie enjoyed travelling when she could, and of course all things Hawaii, the birthplace of her mother. In 2000 she was blessed with her first granddaughter Jaylyn. Jaylyn was a huge source of joy for Teddie, often referred to as grandma's girl or her angel. Teddie never missed one of Jaylyn's dance shows, and she literally lit up watching her on stage. Karl and Teddie moved to Sun City Lincoln Hills in 2005 with her mother Rose Colla. Rose suffered a stroke in 2007, and Teddie helped take care of her in the care facility, visiting every day until her passing. In 2012 she was once again blessed with another granddaughter Morgan. Morgan having been born premature has the same fighting spirit and stubbornness of her grandma. Teddie looked forward to each and every visit or Facetime session they could have, just to see her miracle of a granddaughter. Teddie was very special to her son in law Jason with whom she had a close and humorous bond, and to her daughter in law Maureen whom she was very proud of her artistic talents. Post- polio syndrome amongst other ailments plagued Teddie in her final years, she fought through tremendous amounts of pain, always with Karl at her side. Teddie can finally rest peacefully, no longer having to fight, always a source of love to all that knew her, looking over her friends and family with her tough as nails spirit and her deep loving heart.
