Susan Inglis Spannagel, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away on May 3, 2024, just 6 weeks shy of her 101st birthday at the home of her daughter Peggy Schechter in Lincoln, CA. The daughter of Scottish immigrants who came to America in the early 1920’s, Susan was born to George Drummond Wilson (1896-1948) and Annie Inglis (1901-1993), in Harvey Illinois, on June 22,1923.
Susan's life was filled with love and joy, from her early days in Harvey, Illinois with her cherished family. After graduating from Pacific Grove High School in 1941 she moved with her parents to South San Francisco and attending Jr. College until World War II. Susan then began a career at the US Post Office where she met the love of her life, Robert Spannagel (1920-1976). Their encounter blossomed into a beautiful marriage on April 8th, 1944. Susan and Robert shared 32 wonderful years together until Robert's passing in 1976 at the age of 56.
A dedicated mother to her children David (1946-2016) and daughter Peggy, Susan found immense pride and joy in her family. She adored her four grandsons and their wives and children beyond measure. Her happiest moments were when the entire family gathered to create lasting memories.
In her leisure time, Susan enjoyed various hobbies such as making greeting cards, playing Mexican Train, solving puzzles, traveling and indulging in her love for reading. She also had a passion for dancing and appreciated the music of the "Big Band Era."
Described as “sweet” by many, Susan was admired for her beautiful facial skin that kept her looking youthful throughout the years. Her kind-hearted nature touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Susan is survived by her daughter Peggy Schechter and son-in-law Paul Schechter; daughter-in-law Vicki Spannagel; grandson John Spannagel (Hilary); grandson Brian Silva (Nikki); grandson Mark Spannagel (Emily); grandson Douglas Silva (Tamara); step-granddaughter Elizabeth Whalley (Jason); as well as ten great-grandchildren: Alexa & Tyler Silva; John & Tom Spannagel; Franklin Spannagel; Cole, Samantha, Jordyn & Brooklyn Silva; Landan Whalley.
A touching memorial service to celebrate Susan's life will be held on May 24th, 2024, at Heritage Oaks Memorial Chapel in Rocklin, CA, followed by a graveside service at Newcastle Cemetery. The day will conclude with a gathering at the home of her daughter, Peggy, where friends and family will come together to honor Susan's memory.
Susan Inglis Spannagel will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love she shared and the lives she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
