Stephen Joseph Ftacek

Stephen Joseph Ftacek, Age 74, of Roseville, passed away on October 24, 2024, after complications from post-polio syndrome.

Steve was born on December 30, 1949, to Albert and Helen Ftacek in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the eldest of ten siblings. He attended elementary schools in Ottawa, Illinois, Stockton, California and Manteca, California. After Steve graduated from Manteca High School in 1967, he went on to study Computer Science at Delta College.

After graduating with a degree in Computer Science, he started his job at Contel as an Assignment/Programming Technician, kickstarting a long career in Programming with Contel/Verizon. Steve saw the changes the phone company went through, from paper records to computers.  Contel went from Contel to GTE to Bell Atlantic to Verizon while he was employed.  Steve was relocated from Manteca to Southern California, which he loved. He was well respected by his coworkers and management for his friendliness and availability to help his coworkers.  Management assigned him to major projects due to his knowledge and follow through, including a special project for the Olympics.

Steve retired due to health reasons.  He spent his time building Lego buildings, reading, attending musicals and outdoor events, visiting friends & family, and hanging out at the mall.

Steve was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Helen Ftacek, brothers Jim and Dennis Ftacek, and sister, Anne Ftacek. He is survived by sisters Karen Sayers of Roseville, Mary Hayes of Noel, Missouri, Therese Mason of Manteca, Vicki Spencer of Manteca, Judy Nebeker of Phoenix, Arizona, and brother Philip Ftacek of Manteca. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Roseville Veterans Memorial Hall on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 3:00.
