Robert Glenn Borg

July 5, 1938 — November 21, 2015

After an extended battle with Multiple Myeloma, Robert G. "Bob" Borg, beloved husband and father, died on November 21, 2015, in Roseville, CA at the age of 77. Bob was born on July 5, 1938 in Moline, IL, to Roy C. Borg and Elzada Marie Borg. After graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force and was eventually stationed at McClellan Air Force Base, where he met and married Diana Wiley, beginning their more than 57-year marriage. Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1960, he had already secured a job as a Correctional Officer at Folsom State Prison, and his 32-year career in state service began. He then worked at 11 institutions and promoted through the ranks ultimately retiring as the Warden of Folsom State Prison in 1992; ironically right where he had started. While a Lieutenant assigned as the Training Manager at the California Medical Facility, he was instrumental in developing the initial Departmental Training Academy and the statewide Apprenticeship Program, greatly enhancing the professionalism within the department. After retirement, he worked as a retired annuitant for the Department when he developed and facilitated a Wardens Peer Interactive Training Program and mentored newer, less experienced administrators experiencing inmate violence problems, among many other things. He went on to work for the Republic of Malta, establishing procedures for discipline, classification, perimeter and interior security, supervision of inmates and staff, staff training, searches, emergency response, and transportation of inmates. In addition to the Republic of Malta, he worked with other Corrections Departments including Indiana, New Mexico, and Arizona. He also spent over 20 years as a consultant and expert witness for the US Department of Justice, various Attorneys General, and private attorneys in court cases related to corrections. More than anything, Bob loved his family. He is survived by his wife Diana, his children Steve Borg and Wendy Burgess, his grandchildren Shaina Borg and Paul and Jessica Burgess, and his sister, Carolyn Domzalski. He and Diana also shared a love of dogs, sometimes having up to five. They were always willing to dog sit or foster dogs and they could be seen walking multiple dogs around the streets of Sun City Lincoln Hills. Bob always carried a pocket full of treats for every dog he met...knowing all by their names. Bob suffered from Lymphoma in 2001 but was in full remission by 2003. In 2011, he was again stricken with cancer - Multiple Myeloma. He fought long and hard, continuing to play competitive racquetball and work in his yard until December 2014. Bob and Diana took their last of over 20 cruises in October 2015, and he fell seriously ill shortly after. He was out of treatment options for multiple myeloma and Bob lost his fight in the evening of November 21, 2015, with Steve and Wendy by his side - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/sacbee/obituary.aspx?n=Robert-G-Borg-Bob&pid=176792962#sthash.KMI1NI47.dpuf
