Peter Competente Dela Cruz

Peter Dela Cruz Sr. was born on April 27, 1941, in Cebu City, Philippines. He later migrated to San Francisco, California in 1997, where he suffered a heartbreaking loss of his beloved wife. He often reminded his children the saying “ The show must go on” a lesson that continues to guide the family.

He won the heart of his beautiful wife, Carlota "Lota" Garde Dela Cruz from Batangas, building a life together filled with love and family. Their bond was the foundation of our home, and his devotion to her and to each of us was unwavering.

He was a proud father to eight children – five sons who carry his name, "Peter," and three daughters whose names begin with "L" in honor of their mother "Lota".

- Sons: Peter Sean, Peter Neil, Peter, Peter Dave, and youngest son Peter Karem

- Daughters: Lolibeth, Lolaine, and Lucille

And 19 grandchildren and 6 great grand children.

Peter Dela Cruz Sr. was one of 12 siblings, born to Serviliano and Connie C. Dela Cruz. His mother Connie was a soprano singer, and all the siblings were gifted musicians – a talent that ran in their blood and has been passed down through generations.

In Tacloban City, he served as a government employee and was part of the City Band for many years. A natural musician and singer, he was a true performer at heart. He traveled internationally with different bands and won championships in various singing contests, including the popular noon-time show Tita Betty Show, and the Student Canteen.

A joyful and down-to-earth man, he treated everyone he met with warmth – from his siblings to extended family and all who crossed his path. At every occasion, he gladly shared his golden voice with guests, and his musical spirit is why he remains unforgettable to his friends. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, a role he held close to his heart. The memories we share with him are countless and will be treasured forever.

"His spirit lives on in every note we sing, every laugh we share, and every moment we spend together. And he will be forever missed. And as he used to say “The show must go on."
