Dr. Paul Joseph Madak brought the values and work ethic learned on his grandfather's farm to bear on a long and distinguished career in public education during which he served as Superintendent of Schools for the Clear Fork Local, Olmsted Falls City, Kettering City, and Lakewood City districts and Interim Superintendent for Mansfield City, Revere Local, and Brecksville-Broadview Heights, and was the recipient of numerous honors including a Fulbright Scholarship to Germany, Ohio Superintendent of the Year, and the presidency of the Greater Cleveland School Superintendants' Association.
A native of Canton, Ohio and alumnus of the University of Dayton and Kent State University, Dr. Madak was also a lover of baroque and classical music, an accomplished trumpet player, and the one-time director of the Central Catholic High School marching band, as well as an avid traveler whose curiosity and love of life took him from Italy and Greece to Russia, China, Australia, and New Zealand.
His many friends and colleagues describe him as a role model and an inspiration, a man of character, integrity, warmth, and faith. In turn he maintained that he felt the hand of God at work in the quality of the people with whom he was fortunate enough to share his life. He is survived by his wife, Lana Turner Madak, his sister, Elaine Marie James, and his son, Christopher Joseph Madak, all of whom ask that you remember Joe whenever you order a CC Manhattan "up".
