PATRICIA'S STORY
Patricia Louise McKenna of Rocklin, California, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 3, 2021 surrounded by her daughter, son and daughter-in-law. Patricia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Patricia, also known as Pat and Patty by many, had a loving, generous, and caring soul. Patricia was unselfishly known for putting others before herself. Her beautiful smile and infectious laugh always filled the room with love. There was nothing more cherished by Patricia than her family, which she considered her pride and joy.
Patricia was born March 31, 1948 in Long Beach, to John and Sophie Latham. She is survived by her brother, Robert (Bob) Latham (wife Mary), daughter Paula Sloan, son Matthew (Matt) Eaton (wife Melissa), granddaughters Ashley Rose, Jessica Marks (husband Jason), Meghan Eaton, Makenna Eaton, and four great-grandchildren Emma Rose, Jackson Rose, Riley Marks, and Blake Marks. Patricia was predeceased by her late husband Gerard (Gerry) McKenna who passed in 2014.
Patricia was born and raised in Long Beach California, spending most of her life in Long Beach and Redondo Beach. In 2008, Patricia and her husband moved to Northern California to be close to her children and grandchildren, after the passing of her parents. Growing up as a devoted and faithful Catholic, Patricia attended and graduated from St. Anthony High School (Long Beach, CA) in 1966. Patricia's love for animals led her to a career in veterinary healthcare. On an occasion, Patricia was known for adopting a stray dog or two, providing them with a loving home, from the animal hospital where she worked for many years.
Traveling the world was another love that Patricia had, leading to memorable adventures in Australia, Ireland, Greece and Tahiti. However, her favorite destination was the beautiful and welcoming sandy beaches of Hawaii, spending countless vacations there with her family. Patricia also had a love for baseball, being an unwavering supporter and fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers. After moving to Northern California, Patricia and her family would often catch a game in San Francisco when the Dodgers were in town playing the Giants. There was always a bit of a fun family rivalry between the two teams, but Patricia never strayed from loving her Dodgers.
In addition to her love for traveling and baseball, Patricia also had an immense passion for music. On bright Saturday mornings, Patricia would often play one of her favorite records, sharing her passion of music with her family. You could often find Patricia listening and singing along to some of her favorite artists like Billy Joel, The Eagles, Neil Diamond, The Carpenters, and Helen Reddy, just to name a few.
After the death of her husband, Gerry, Patricia was diagnosed at a young age with Alzheimer's in 2015. Although this diagnosis was difficult for both Patricia and her family, she did not surrender to this disease easily, fighting until the very end. Unfortunately, Patricia became ill towards the end of 2020 and lived her final months on hospice care until the disease finally took her from her family. Her passing has left an immense void in the hearts of those who have been fortunate enough to meet her. However, Patricia is now at peace, free from any pain and in a happier place, reunited for all eternity with her husband and parents and many familiar four-legged friends she loved so much.
Patricia will always be remembered for being a devoted mother, having a loving heart, an infectious laugh, unconditional friendships, and a beautiful smile. She will always be in the hearts of those who loved her, she will never be forgotten. We love you Mom/Grams!
