Mary Catherine "Cathy" Hopper

May 10, 1947 — November 17, 2014

Mary Catherine White (Cathy) was born on May 10, 1947 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Don and Betty White. She was the oldest of six children. Her siblings include sister Shirley, brother Glenn, and sisters Barbara, Annette, and Denise.

Cathy married her high school sweetheart, Ed Hopper, in 1966. Ed joined the Navy in 1969 and Cathy enjoyed being a military wife. They lived in Florida, Texas, and California while Ed was in flight school and deployed overseas. Ed and Cathy established their home in Campbell, CA in 1972 after Ed was stationed at Moffet Air Force Base in Mountain View, CA. They have 2 children, Lisa and Dawn, born in 1971 and 1975.

Cathy worked as an accountant for over 30 years, and loved doing crafts, such as macrame, quilting, and sewing. Traveling was a passion of Cathy's, and she went to several continents and resort locations, such as Europe, Australia, Fiji, Tahiti, and Cancun, to name a few.

In 2001, Ed and Cathy moved to Roseville, CA to be closer to their daughters. Cathy has five grandchildren, Nicole (17), Marc (13), Danielle (8), and Collin and Kyle (6). She loved spending time with her grandchildren traveling, going to amusement parks, doing crafts, and watching their various sporting events.

Cathy was considered a generous, caring, and fun-spirited woman by all who knew her. Those who knew her well would comment on her amazing memory and attention to detail.

In 2009, Cathy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and beat the odds, living five and a half years, full of travel and time with family. She continued to amaze even her doctors, who told her she was in the top ten percent of surviving patients. Cathy was a fighter—strong, optimistic, and brave.

On November 17, 2014, Cathy lost her battle with cancer, surrounded by Ed, her daughters, sons-in-law, Jason and Bryan, her grandchildren, and four sisters.

Cathy will be greatly missed by family and friends, but never forgotten. Her home is in Heaven now, surrounded by family that arrived before her, including her parents, in-laws, and brother, Glenn.
