Leland Carl Peterson

Leland was born on July 14, 1939 and passed away on March 11, 2026. He was a faithful husband for 63 years and leaves behind a beautiful legacy.

Born in Mead, Nebraska, Lee was the son of a Covenant pastor who served in many churches throughout the United States. In college, Lee met Shirley, the love of his life, and they married in 1962, settling in Rocklin, CA. It was soon thereafter that Lee started teaching at Placer High School in Auburn, where he spent the entirety of his 39 year career. Lee loved his job and was actively involved in the culture of the school; first as a math teacher, then as a respected guidance counselor. He enjoyed attending various school athletic events like basketball, football, and track meets, supporting and rooting for his students.  He welcomed conversations about college applications, choosing a career path, or any other upcoming life-altering decisions a young adult would have.  He proctored SAT tests regularly, and bravely took on driver training instruction; just two examples of him going above and beyond to provide a positive impact to the next generation.

Lee lived a life shaped by his strong faith in Jesus Christ, and served in Community Covenant Church in Rocklin for 50+ years. When it came to church functions, there was hardly a hat that Lee didn't wear, whether it was teaching Sunday school, serving on the leadership team as church chairman, elder, and was an integral part of several pastoral search committees. His love of music and gift for singing began in childhood and only grew stronger throughout his life, evidenced by his many years as a worship leader and choir director. He found deep joy in singing and especially had a love for hymns.

Lee had a love for reading, especially memoirs and biographies of cultural or political figures, as well as those of faith. Throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling, camping when his kids were young, and wisely upgrading to RVing when he and Shirley retired. He loved starting small but meaningful traditions with his grandchildren, such as taking them out for hot chocolate and playing card and board games with them.

Lee is survived by his cherished and loving wife Shirley, his daughter Kim Boudon (husband Terry) and son Jeff (wife Dawn).

His legacy will continue to live on through his 5 grandchildren: Keenan Boudon, Hannah Damigo (Peterson), Nathan Boudon, Emma Peterson, and Ian Peterson.

Lee is also survived by his sister Claris Cahan, 6 nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by his brother, Delmar Peterson.

Lee was a godly man of integrity, filled with compassion, and always looking to bless others. He was the cornerstone of our lives and will be dearly missed. Our hope is in Christ and the assurance of being with him once again in heaven.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and He will make straight your paths.   - Prov. 3: 5-6
