Latu Similai, age 64, passed away peacefully, on Monday December 25th, 2023, in his home with his youngest son by his side. He was born August 4th, 1959, in Vava’u to Liku and Alisi Similai. At the age of 18, Latu decided to move from his home in Tonga to the United States to play rugby. He ended up settling down in California where he worked as Landscaper, Tree Trimmer and Linemen, each of which he loved and pursued to the fullest.
On December 30, 1984, Latu’s family grew when his first son, Alfonso, was born. It grew again fifteen years later when his second son, Darin, was born on January 5, 2000. Latu loved nothing more than spending time with family, whether it was watching the Kings play with his sons, going to the Casino with his siblings, or flying out to Texas to spend time with his granddaughter.
Latu is survived by his two sons, Alfonso and Darin, his granddaughter Winter, his siblings, daughters-in-law Sara and Grace, and many nieces and nephews. Latu had an uncanny ability to reach people. His presence was cherished by all who met him because of his joyous and jolly spirit.
Family, friends and all who were touched by Latu’s presence are invited to celebrate his life with us at Heritage Oaks Memorial Chapel, 6920 Destiny Drive, Rocklin, from 12 pm to 6 pm on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. We will reminisce, grieve, support each other and most importantly, eat all of his favorite foods!
