John passed away peacefully on May 10, 2014, at the age of 63, after a courageous, eight year battle with cancer. At his side were his loving wife Susan and his dear son, Brent.
John is also survived by his mother, Marylyn Lewis, his sister Betty Maddox and his brothers, Tom Lewis and Jim Lewis, as well as many other family members throughout California and Washington State.
John was a master carpenter and a past member of Carpenter's Local 1147 in Roseville. For the past two decades he served as Superintendent of construction for Parker Development Company and Robert C. Powell Company.
He was a perfectionist who took pride in a job well done. He was not only a leader but a valued team member, who pitched in wherever someone needed a helping hand. He took pride in mentoring others and always wanted to pass his skill and knowledge, on with a huge laugh and a smile, which could make the hardest job a delight.
During that time he lovingly helped hundreds of local families transition into their new homes in Gold River and Serrano.
John loved the outdoors and when not tending his garden, he could be found fishing any and all of the lakes, streams, rivers and oceans throughout the west from San Diego to Alaska.
John loved people and made friends easily. He laughed and joked and always asked people how they were doing. From the moment you met John, you got the feeling that he was really interested in you and really cared. He loved children and several generations of the children in our family have been blessed with many hours of laughter and pure joy in his presence.
John loved music. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of Rock and Country and enjoyed sharing music with his friends and family.
Friends and family alike miss John dearly but will always have him as a role model for living life with joy, love, hard work and an enduring spirit.
