John Richard Haluck, of Roseville, CA, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at the age of 73.

He was born on March 30, 1951, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Casimir and Rose Haluck. He was the eldest of two sons.

He married his beloved wife, Yvette Mirande in 1980. They have lived in Roseville since 1985 where they raised two sons and one daughter.

John graduated from St. Bernard's High School in Playa del Rey, CA in 1969 and earned a B.S. in Biology from Loyola University of Los Angeles (now Loyola Marymount University) in 1973. He furthered his education at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in 1979.

While at Loyola University, John was a member of the 1971 men’s crew team, which recorded the fastest 2,000 meter time on the West Coast for that season (still a program and course record), finished second among American west coast crews, and 10th at nationals. His team was inducted into the LMU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022.

John's military service began in 1973 when he was commissioned into the US Air Force from Loyola’s ROTC program. He graduated with distinction as a navigator in 1974 and flew C5s worldwide until 1976. He was accepted into the Air Force Legal Education Program and attended the UOP McGeorge School of Law. He served as a Judge Advocate from 1979 to 1986 on bases in Texas, Alaska, Mississippi, and California. He continued his service in the California Air National Guard from 1988 to 1996, including a six-year assignment as Staff Judge Advocate at HQ, and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a recipient of the Air Force Reserve Judge Advocate of the Year Award, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Achievement Medal.

Following his service as a JAG in the United States Air Force, he began his private practice law career in 1986 as a trial attorney specializing in medical law, general litigation, and insurance defense. He held esteemed positions in several prominent law firms in the Sacramento area, including The Diepenbrock Law Firm and Koeller, Nebeker, Carlson & Haluck, retiring in December 2018.

John was a deeply committed member of his community. He served on numerous boards, including Roseville Crimestoppers, the Roseville Growth Task Force, Roseville Community Health Foundation, Sacramento Recovery House, Roseville Little League West, Jesuit High School Booster Club and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society where he also chaired the local Light the Night walk. He was a dedicated Rotarian, a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, and a Knight with the Order of Malta, serving the sick and the poor. He served his church community as an altar server, Eucharistic minister, on ACTS retreats, on the St. Rose Pastoral Council, and leading the weekly “Ordinary Men” group.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, John found immense joy in his family and community. He was a devoted husband and father. He coached his children in various sports, including baseball and basketball, cheered them on in activities and academics, chauffeured whenever and wherever needed. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren, attending their sporting events and activities. He was an avid golfer and gardener, and enjoyed home improvement projects, family game nights, puzzles, traveling, and cheering on the Sacramento Kings and the San Francisco Giants. He loved his constant canine companion, Cooper, and their walks.

He was preceded in death by his father Casimir Haluck and his mother Rose Schaumann Haluck Van Luven.

He is survived by his wife Yvette; children Scott Haluck (Ning), Nicholas Haluck (Jnana), and Christa Warner (Greg); brother Bill Haluck (Cathy); seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

John will be remembered for his determination, organization, leadership, punctuality, loving and kind nature, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
