Joan Elizabeth White, also known as “Mommy Joan”, aged 90, departed this life peacefully on May 31, 2024, in Sacramento, California. Born in Coffeyville, Kansas, on December 7, 1933, to the late Earl and Blanche Green, Joan imbibed the Midwestern virtues of honesty, empathy, and a nurturing disposition.
A bastion of compassion, Joan was often the linchpin of her community, offering a caring hand and a diplomatic word when needed. Her forthrightness and demand for integrity in all her interactions were tempered by an underlying warmth, which made her a figure of respect and adoration. Joan's presence was akin to a beacon of guidance, earning her the affectionate epithet of an angel on earth by those who knew her best.
Professionally, Joan served with honor and commitment at the Department of Water and Power for the City of Sacramento and took pride in her contributions to White's Automotive. Through her industrious nature, Joan became a respected figure in her field.
Her academic pursuits began at Grant Union High School and continued as she expanded her knowledge at American River College and Sacramento State University, reflecting her belief in the power of education.
Joan's devotion extended to her spiritual life; she was an active and faithful member of both Calvary Lutheran Church and Ascension Lutheran Church. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, providing strength and solace throughout her journey.
Surviving Joan are her beloved children, Donna Morrow (Anthony), Rhonda Wilson (Michael), and Marc Allen (Erica); her sister, Theresa Allen; and her brother, Steven Green (Kay); as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews; She was preceded in eternity by her parents, Earl and Blanche Green; by her cherished husbands, Bill Allen and Lincoln White; her sisters, Jerri Thompson and Doris Jackson; and her brother, Earl Green Jr.
Joan Elizabeth White's memory will be treasured like a precious heirloom, handed down through generations. Her lessons of love, her diplomatic resolve, and her nurturing soul will continue to inspire and comfort her family, her friends, and all those fortunate enough to have been part of her life.
