Joan was born on September 20, 1932 and passed away peacefully in her home with family on Saturday, October 26, 2019.
Joan was born in Circleville, Ohio to Ellen Crowley and Andrew Lynch. She was raised there as a little girl with her older brother Bill Lynch. They moved to California when she was young child and she grew up in Van Nuys CA. She attended St Elisabeth Elementary School where she met her lifelong friends Joanne, Lucille and Alma. She attended Van Nuys High School where she enjoyed singing in the choir, dancing and taking trips with friends to the snow or horseback riding.
In her early 20's she worked at Universal Studios as a comptometer operator in the accounting department where she met John (Jack) Bauer. They fell in love and got married a year later on August 31, 1957 at St. Elisabeth's in Van Nuys CA. Their best friends until this day were in their wedding, Rudy and Connie Linder.
Jack and Joan moved to San Diego that year and rented an apartment before purchasing their first home together on Mono Lake Drive. There they were able to raise the first 3 children close to family and have many great memories of those years.
Their first child Teri was born in 1958, followed by Mike in 1961, Cindy in 1963, Patty in 1972 and Jenny in 1975.
Jack, Joan and the first 3 children moved from San Diego to San Fernando Valley in 1967. They lived on Criswell St from 1967-1972 and then bought the home on Kentland Ave where they raised all five children and met wonderful neighborhood friends. Joan was a mom to all in that neighborhood, opening her home and pool to all the neighborhood kids.
Joan was a dedicated mother and homemaker along with volunteering in the women's guild and church choir at Our Lady of the Valley while her children attended elementary school there. Raising her children Catholic and instilling a belief that we are not alone and that God is always with us, was at the heart of who she was and how she lived her life. Her belief gave her strength, kindness and patience.
Jack and Joan moved to Rocklin California after selling their home on Kentland Ave about 20 years ago. Again they were lucky enough to make wonderful neighborhood friends who have been an extended family. They have been parishioners at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic church for over 20 years and have met a community of friends there as well.
Jack and Joan celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this year and their beautiful love and connection is an inspiration to us all. They have 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Joan was an extraordinarily loving and giving woman who loved her husband, children and grandchildren with all of her heart. She will be tremendously missed but will remain in the hearts of all who she so gracefully and lovingly touched.
