Jewett was born in Oklahoma on February 8th, 1926 and entered into rest on August 8th, 2013 at the age of 87. he is survived by his wife , children and grandchildren. Jewett served his country faithfully for 20 years before retiring at the rank of Sergeant My dad was born the 12th of 13 children. He was born 2-08-1926. He is now 87
My Dad was drafted into WWII in 1944-He went to Germany right after basic training.
He also served in combat in Vietnam. He was a GREAT dad, gentle, kind,
always forgiving. He called his three daughters his treasures. He married my mom
in 1968 and as I said had three daughters, Rebecca, Sarah, Tamar. He was a faithful
Episcopalian. He loved the Lord in a quiet manner. He was a loving grandfather-he has 9
grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was loved dearly by all his nephews and neices
as he had helped take care of a lot of his sister's children. He always said he was a simple man
and he was. A good used book made him happy. He loved vegatables and especially eating an onion
like an apple. When asked how are you? He would say" I am great!-as long as I can get out of
bed in the morning-I am doing great!" Even though he was a gentle man, he was strong as an ox
to the end. He loved yardwork and gardening. He loved tinkering with cameras, radios. He loved music and
dancing. He never swore, drank or smoked. He was by all accounts pure at heart. He loved my mom
and they were married 45 years. Whenever I was sad my Dad would cheer me up and if I made mistakes
he would say we all make mistakes. He never critisized us. He loved bear hugs and affection. He
played with his grandchildren, often taking them to the park before Alzheimers struck in 2007. He loved
coffee and dunking donuts in coffee. At one point I remember him buying rose colored glasses and
wearing them everywhere, he was a bit ...well a lot of an eccentric. He was quirky and he made
everyone laugh. He babysat for all his daughters and the grandchildren loved him. He was
always buying the kids icecream or slurpees. He always said that all he wanted was Peace, in the
family. He was a good, good man, human being. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone who asked
-he never complained, he would help anyone in need.----as a kid when I would ask about death
he would tell me, death is a part of life. He would also quote the Bible about the seasons and a time for everything.
His favorite psalm was psalm 23.. He sang "Onward Christian Soldier" and "HOLY,HOLY,HOLY<" all the time.
He also quoted the saying"OLD SOLDIERS NEVER DIE, THEY JUST FADE AWAY;" I think that
is how he would like to be remembered. And lastly, when saying goodbye, my Dad never responded goodbye,
He always said ' No, No-dont say goodbye...He said ...Till we meet again." This is just some of my DAd
He was an amazing man and I wish I had told him that more.-thank you for taking the time to come and
say a few things.
