Jerry L Skoglund

February 2, 1939 — March 29, 2018

Jerry was born in Minot, ND on February 2, 1939, to John Emanuel and Pearl Ann Newman-Skoglund. He was the youngest of five children.
He lived on a farm near Velva, ND. He loved riding his horse, trapping mink and swimming in the creek. His least favorite thing about the farm was milking the cows in the cold, cold winters.
In 1957 Jerry joined the United States Army for three years of service. On a visit home in 1958, before being sent to Germany, he met Judy Fandrich at a Welcome Home party. Their courtship was mostly in letter writing.
Their first date consisted of taking his nieces to a children's park in Minot, ND. Jerry came back from Germany in 1960 to attend his father's funeral. Before being sent to Fort Dixon, NJ, to complete his service obligation, he and Judy were married on August 20, 1960.
Jerry and Judy began their married life in the Grand Forks, ND area. Jerry and Judy did not like the cold winters so in 1963 they up and moved to San Jose, California. While attending West Valley College, Jerry also worked at an accounting firm until he graduated. In 1967 he began working for IBM in the accounting department. He was employed with IBM for 27 years.
In 1968 Tami joined the family. She was "Daddy's little girl". Jon joined the family in 1969 completing the family circle. Jerry was elated having a son to "carry on" the Skoglund name!
In 1977, Jerry and Judy bought their first motor home. Many weekends were spent at KOA camp grounds with relatives, the kids and their friends. Jerry and Judy also enjoyed weekend trips to Lake Tahoe and Reno. He enjoyed car trips on the open road.
Jerry retired in 1992. In 1994 they moved to Twain Harte, CA - tall trees, blue skies and clean air! Grandchildren soon came after and he thoroughly cherished being a Grandpa. Jerry delighted in the weekend visits with the grandchildren. Whether it be sledding down the snow covered driveway, playing in the dirt to garden or just snuggling with them in his recliner. Being a Grandpa was the best job he ever fulfilled.
In 2010, Jerry and Judy decided to move back to the "flat lands" where they have resided in Sun City Lincoln Hills, Lincoln, CA until present day when Jesus called Jerry home on March, 29, 2018.
Jerry loved gardening. He surrounded the yard with flowers, fruit trees and waterfalls. Jerry also enjoyed watching sports, wrestling and westerns on tv as well as listening to country western music. His favorite performers were Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Jerry was a social, jovial and funny character. He liked being around people, talking with people and telling stories - true or "stretched". He was well liked in his church where he volunteered. More than anything, Jerry treasured family time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He truly felt blessed to have had fifty-seven and a half years of marriage to the love of his life.
