Emblem

Jim was born to Harold and Ethel Wine in Sacramento on February 18, 1947. His sister, Vickie joined the family 3½ years later. He grew up in Sacramento, but often enjoyed visiting relatives in more rural areas. He was a Cub Scout for two years. The family often attended church in the Sacramento area.

Jim graduated from McClatchy High School in 1965 and Sacramento City College in 1967. He played saxophone in the high school and college marching bands and especially enjoyed playing at the UC Davis Picnic and marching in the Rose Bowl Parade.

In early 1967 Jim accepted Christ as Lord and Savior after watching a Billy Graham telecast. In June 1967 he was drafted into the United Sates Army and deployed to Viet Nam as a Chinook helicopter mechanic. In 1969 he returned to Sacramento and worked for the U.S. Post Office before leaving to continue his education at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, graduating in 1972 with a B.S. in Electronics Technology. Following college graduation, he took brief electronics employment in the Bay area and then returned to Sacramento to begin Civil Service electronics work at the Sacramento Army Depot.

In 1976 Jim met Ann Sollie at Simpson College Extension where both were auditing classes on the Life of Christ. They dated for two years before getting married on May 27, 1978. They made their home in Sacramento and Jim continued working at the Army Depot until its closure in 1995. From there he transferred to McClellan AFB until it also closed in 1999, at which point he took early government retirement and went to work for two private electronics firms, Comtek Computer Systems and then Pasco Scientific, retiring from Pasco in 2017.

One of the most joyful highlights of Jim’s life was when he and Ann became parents after 17 years of marriage. Rebecca was born on February 10, 1995, and has blessed her parents with many proud and loving moments!

Jim and Ann have always been involved in ministry at each of the churches they attended: Cordova Neighborhood, Southside Alliance, Riverside Wesleyan, and Vintage Park Community Church. Jim’s ministries included Audio/Visual, Men’s Ministries, Ushering, and serving as an Elder.

On October 20, 2022, Jim passed away with his wife and daughter by his side. Jim was a faithful, loving husband for 44 years and a proud, loving father for 27 years. He was a spiritual leader for his family and in his church, and a testimony to his friends as he faithfully served his Lord. He is greatly missed, but has earned his reward and is now whole in body, mind, and spirit with his Lord Jesus Christ.
