Over the course of his career, James successfully ran two businesses for more than ten years, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to his work. James was passionate about learning and embraced education throughout his life. He is survived by his loving family, which includes his sons, Jamison Mergens and Colin Mergens, his daughters, Lydia Devereux and Katelyn Gomez, and his sister, Marilyn Farnik. James also takes with him the memories of his grandchildren, including Journee Mergens, Jordan Mergens, Madilyn Mergens, Asher Mergens, Aubrey Gomez, and Wesley Gomez.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on November 22, 2024, at Heritage Oaks Memorial Chapel, located at 6920 Destiny Dr, Rocklin, CA 95677, starting at 1:00 PM and concluding at 5:00 PM. This gathering will honor the legacy and memories of James, whose intelligent and witty presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
