In the gentle embrace of a sunset, we gather to honor the indelible spirit of Jacqueline Rachelle VanDuvall-Swepston, a loving soul who left this world on May 30, 2024, in Roseville, California. Born on November 5, 1951, in Kansas, Jacqueline quickly blossomed into a beacon of kindness and ambition, illuminating the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.
Her journey began in the vibrant halls of Lowell Elementary in Riverside, CA, where curiosity first sparked. This love for learning flourished through University Middle School and ultimately culminated in her graduation from Riverside Poly High School in 1969. But it was not merely academic success that defined her; it was her unwavering drive to uplift and empower those around her.
Jacqueline embarked on a commendable career with the California Department of Corrections, starting in 1977 at the California Rehabilitation Center. Her dedication saw her transfer to the California Medical Facility in 1978, and by November 1985, she had ascended to the rank of Sergeant at the Rehabilitation Center—a testament to her resourcefulness and tenacity. Her legacy includes helping many secure positions within the Department, reflecting her profound belief in the power of opportunity and support.
Beyond her professional achievements, Jacqueline was the heart of her family. Memories crafted around hearty meals and lively discussions captured her true essence. She cherished every moment spent with her family and friends, recognizing that it was more than just food; it was about the warmth of connection, the laughter, and the shared memories that nourished the soul.
She loved to engage in playful competition, relishing games of backgammon, spades, and bid-wisk—a testament to her spirited nature and ability to bring joy to those around her. Her loving and welcoming personality drew people in, creating a community bound by the tenderness she exuded.
Jacqueline leaves behind her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Ariel Senegal, who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Her grandchildren—Charles Smith, Lemoyne Senegal Jr., Monyae Senegal, Capriesha Senegal, A'mani Simmons, Troy Senegal Jr., and Tru Senegal—along with her great-grandchildren Charles Smith Jr., Celina Smith, and Xzavier Smith, will remember her not just as a grandmother, but as a source of inspiration, strength, and love.
She is preceded in death by her cherished mother, Anna Louise VanDuvall, and father, Vernon Verdell VanDuvall, as well as her beloved son, Lemoyne Senegal. Each of these departures has shaped her, instilling in her an even deeper appreciation for love and connection.
As we celebrate the life of Jacqueline Rachelle VanDuvall-Swepston, let us gather to share the stories, laughter, and the love she so freely gave. In the spirit of Jacqueline, may we come together to remember the beautiful tapestry of her life, woven with love, laughter, and unyielding kindness.
