Gregory Don Moore was born on March 2, 1947, in Lubbock, Texas to Oather Winfield Moore, Jr. and Billie Ann Monroe. He passed from this life on February 8, 2022, in Sacramento, CA at the age of 74, just four months after his mother passed.
Greg was a husband, father, grandfather, dog father and friend to a large community spanning Texas to California. He was ambitious, smart, talented, competitive and humble. A man remembered for his work ethic and ability to master any game he played.
Greg met Kathleen while working at Aerojet and they were married in 1988. Together they shared four wonderful children and eleven grandchildren, plus Tex, their golden doodle.
Greg grew up in Lubbock, Texas and where he was known for his track and field accomplishments. His High School track record for the ¾ mile, held for more than 30 years. Greg competed throughout high school and into college until an ankle injury stopped him in his tracks.
Greg joined the United States Air Force and served as a Tech Sergeant in Turkey during the Vietnam War. Upon leaving the Air Force, he obtained a BS in Business Administration and began a long and successful career in the aerospace industry. Known for his accuracy and work ethic, Greg climbed the corporate ladder from LTV Aerospace in Dallas, to Martin Marietta, and finally retired from Aerojet in Sacramento CA. With each position he continued to excel professionally while making a fashion statement in his 3-piece suits and cowboy boots. He was Texan to the core and was proud of his heritage. With a 40-year career under his belt, he hung up his spurs and shifted gears into retirement, transitioning his work ethic into personal and community projects, as well as his beloved golf game.
Greg grew up in the era of James Dean and considered himself something of a lone wolf. He was not one to shy away from adventure, and leaves behind a legacy of good stories that include bull-riding, racing cars, and fleeing police in his 57’ Chevy.
Greg was a talented man who easily mastered multiple forms of art, sports and games, such as pitching softball on a team that won the Colorado State Championship the Martin Marietta Corporate Softball Championship in the same year, playing competitive darts, poker, pool games, dirt track racing, deep sea fishing, kayaking and expert skiing! He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, was thoughtful and committed to the ones he cared about, and would accept any offer to help with a home project or repair.
Greg was a man who lived life to the fullest, at one point in his life co-owning a boat and a winery, but enjoyed time with his friends and family above all else. His weekly golf (and donut) buddies, his neighbors, and especially his family will have a giant hole (some would say the size of Texas) where we will feel his absence.
There are many good deeds not mentioned, and many stories not told because above all, Greg was humble and private. In the end, he left behind a wife, four kids and eleven grandchildren, who will carry on his love, his life lessons, his tenacity and some mighty big boots to fill.
He was very loved and will be dearly missed.
