Neil Skellenger was born on November 15th, 1940 in Bishop, CA to his parents Arnold and Mae Skellenger. He was followed by two siblings, Ronnie (1942) and Marian (1951). While there was always plenty for the family to eat, even then, Neil had a hankering for the finer things in life. As a young boy, he would often pick blackberries and sell them to buy nicer clothes and extra things. Neil graduated in 1958 from Placer High School in Auburn. Neil was an avid hunter and fisherman from a young age.
Neil married young and had two children, Larry and Lorra. The marriage ended in 1966. However, the love and care of his children continued with the help of his parents.
Neil worked in construction his whole life. In 1981, he started his own blasting business called Neil's Controlled Blasting (NCB) with a used pickup truck and drill. With the help of his key superintendent, Gary Skellenger, he built the business into the largest blasting company in Northern California.
After many years of being single, he met and married Judy Novak in 2001. Prior to his declining health, they enjoyed traveling throughout the world. And, being as generous as he was, he would often include family and friends in their travels.
Neil was preceded in death by his father, Arnold, and his brother, Ronnie. He is survived by his wife Judy and his mother, Mae; his sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Gail Miller; his children, Larry Skellenger and Lorra Duncan; and his stepchildren and their spouses, Scott and Susan Novak and Jeff and Michelle Novak; as well as 10 grandchildren and a great grandson. He left behind many cherished memories and funny stories. He will be missed tremendously.
