Floyd Edwin Newhall was born on the 3rd of October 1921, to Ora and Edna Newhall. He was raised in Santa Cruz with his three brothers, George, Melvin and Bob.
At the age of 19, Floyd moved to Sacramento to join his brother George in the plumbing business. In 1959 he opened his own business, City Plumbing Company. His customers could always count on Floyd to come when they needed him and they could trust him to get the job done right.
In 1941, Floyd married Anna Belle Shula. She was the love of his life! He was devoted to her and the desire of his heart was that they would be faithful to each other, as their wedding vows said, "'til death do us part." They were married for 49 years when Ann passed into eternity in 1991 at the age of 69. He survived 26 years without her and was faithful to her til the end.
Having grown up during the Great Depression, Floyd and Ann were thrifty people which was evident by the way they lived. They purchased a five-acre parcel in the rural farming area of West Sacramento, and that's where Floyd built a home for his family. Every year they had an abundant vegetable garden, and they also planted fruit and walnut trees. They canned and froze food to carry them through the winters, and they rarely ate dinner out. They grew lovely roses and flowers to add beauty to their home. They even bought a cow that provided their milk, and chickens for the eggs, and you can imagine that even those critters provided a meal or two.
Floyd learned hunting and fishing from his dad, and he enjoyed these as hobbies as well as a way to put dinner on the table. For years he would go out in the acreage behind his home and pick off a pheasant or two which often became our Thanksgiving feast. He went deer and elk hunting in California, Nevada and Colorado with friends. Sometimes he would pack up his family and make a weekend camping trip out of it.
Floyd and Ann raised two daughters, Janice and Christine. They provided well for their girls. They attended church together. As his daughters were growing up, their vacations were camping trips, and visits to Santa Cruz to maintain a close connection with their families.
After his daughters married and left home, he and Ann travelled to many areas of the United States, Canada, and even Alaska. They traveled in Europe with Chris and Ron. They also continued to enjoy camping and ocean fishing in Shelter Cove and Baja California, and many California lakes.
Floyd loved his six grandchildren, and was delighted by his thirteen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. He loved family get togethers!
Floyd's life spanned almost a century. He was 96 years old when he passed into Glory on January 9th, 2018. He lived his life well. He was faithful to those he loved and served. He was a good friend, and he will be always remembered for his sense of humor and big bright smile that warmed our hearts.
