Ernie was born in Ayer Massachusetts, one of 8 children. His early accomplishments before marriage were a paper boy, crossing guard, an Eagle Scout and a manager of a Western Union office in Florida. Ernie served three years in the Army Security Agency (ASA) as a staff Sergeant in Radio-intelligence, stationed in Alaska during the Korean conflict. Ernie attended Santa Rosa Junior College, where he met his wife Dorthy James. They were married March 4, 1954. He attended Sacramento State where he received his BA in English and his teaching credential while working as an insurance investigator. Ernie was then hired as a teacher of English and History at Roseville high school and became Social Studies department head, retiring with 40 years in the district . Ernie founded the Sacramento Valley Forensic League, coached the debate, speech and tennis teams at Roseville High School. In 1967, Ernie took the whole family for a year sabbatical to Purdue University in Indiana where he earned his Masters degree in Economics and upon returning home to Roseville, he introduced and spear-headed the department Economics curriculum for the School District. After 28 years of teaching and semi-retiring from Roseville High school, he continued to teach and mentor teachers at Roseville Independence High School. Ernie enjoyed camping, biking, RV'ing, dancing, poetry and tennis. They enjoyed the family cabin that Ernie and Dorthy built in Plavada, Soda Springs. Ernie and Dorothy were lifelong members of Saint John's Episcopal Church. Ernie is survived by his wife Dorthy Titus, their Children Tim Titus, Phil Titus, Mark Titus, and Jill Marmorstein, 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His siblings - Brother Clarence Titus, sisters Eloise Bebout and Alice Millson.
