Emily Lopez, born on December 18, 1937, in Truchas, New Mexico, passed peacefully at the age of 86 on August 27, 2024, in Roseville, California. Emily was a devoted mother and grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and caregiver. She was cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by her nine children: Geraldine, Debbie, James, Kathleen, Jamie, Mickey, Rodney, Joseph, and Denise, along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who carry on her legacy of love and care.
Emily's early years were spent in Colorado. She marveled about her southwest upbringing. her Native American and Spanish roots she held deep in her heart. She eventually moved to California with her daughter, Geraldine. settling in Sacramento, she took on the roles of wife and mother, creating a nurturing home for her family. Her life was busy being a wife and mother of nine children, She actively supported her husband and children's school and sport events. Emily was also a skilled seamstress, crocheting and knitting some of her daughters' clothes. Emily exhibited remarkable bowling skills, even participating in a local television show to showcase her talent. She managed to balance her family life with pursuits of knowledge, taking psychology courses at American River College.
Emily began her career as her children ventured into their own lives and she explored various opportunities in the grocery industry and retail. It was her determination to serve others that motivated her to return to school, ultimately earning her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. For two decades, she dedicated herself to working with the elderly, particularly those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. She found immense fulfillment in care giving and retired at the age of 65 to enjoy her well deserved retirement after years of being a fantastic homemaker and caregiver.
Upon her retirement, Emily indulged in her passions, immersing herself in the soothing sounds of country music, watching her favorite shows and movies, knitting, crocheting, crosswords, puzzles and cheering for her favorite teams, the San Francisco Giants and the Kansas City Chiefs. However, it was time spent with her children and grandchildren that brought her the greatest joy. Whether attending family events or gathering for holiday celebrations, being with her nine children was truly her most rewarding gift from God.
Known for her generosity, Emily was an exceptional homemaker. Visiting Emily’s home was filled with family and food. Her cooking skills and recipes are still celebrated by her children and grandchildren today. Every birthday was adorned with yummy cakes, presents and fun decor, every holiday was a a living room crowded with presents under the tree, and Easter baskets filled with candy and green grass, all joyous family memories. Her unique personality was defined by her tiny stature and mighty spirit. She had a knack for playful jokes with her children and always welcomed them with open arms and ready laughter.
Emily Lopez leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and her free spirit. As family and friends gather to celebrate her life, they will remember her not just for her devotion to family, friends and her dedicated work ethic, She had an unwavering spirit that touched so many lives and is dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life, by invitation only will be held on October 11, 2024, at Heritage Oaks Memorial Chapel in Rocklin, California, where those who loved her dearly will come together to honor her memory.
