Liz was born in Morristown in New Jersey and spent most of her youth in New Jersey. Even at the earliest age, she let her kind compassionate heart shine helping family and friends. Anyone who has met Liz could not help but know she would be the best friend you could ever have by being open to help with any problem you have. This is probably why she was such an incredible server at any restaurant she worked as well, since she was so helpful and able to talk with anyone and made all she met very content.
When she was 24, she met and remained with her future husband Rich Bernard in Long Branch NJ. During this time, she helped raised Jennifer and had Sarah in 1987, her Jersey Girls. From NJ, she moved to Michigan in 1988 and married Rich in Hawaii and then had Robert in 1989 and Ryan in 1991, her Michigander boys. She did an incredible job raising her children and continuing her work at major restaurants in Michigan, adding dozens of new friends.
In 1997, she moved to California sunshine in Sacramento, and though she loved all the friends she found in Michigan, was ready to leave the cold and snow, for the beautiful sunshine she longed for. After several years of successfully raising her children, she changed her career and wanted to focus on helping people. At this time she joined Placer County and became a Client Services program Specialist and dedicated the remaining time of her life to working to benefit people through the assistance programs offered by the county.
As in her youth, she excelled in giving her heart and help to all she met, and as her co-workers came to know, would work tirelessly not just for those in need, but would help them as well anyway she could. Her generosity, capacity to love, compassionate to those less fortunate, was astounding and to her last days in the hospital, continued to build friends and warm the hearts and souls of all she met.
Her loving support, huge willingness to help anyone, and friendship, will be sorely missed. Our only solace is that she can now share all that love and kindness amongst the angels in heaven and that will only make everyone's arrival that much more extraordinary.
Liz is survived by her loving children, Jennifer, Sarah, Robert and Ryan; grandchild, Shaynna; brother, Ken Gouveia; sisters, Kathy Gouveia, Heather Shea, and Ellen Knack; Godmother, Norma Hart and her husband of 30 years Rich Bernard. She also had a big impact on so many friends, a list that would cover several more paragraphs. Services will be held at 6 pm on Thursday, October 2nd, at Heritage Oaks Memorial Chapel, 6920 Destiny Drive, Rocklin, CA.
