Edna was born in Sacramento in 1933, and passed on June 23rd in Fair Oaks at the age of 84 after a long battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, retired Major General Jim Delk; sons John of Galt and Rev. Jack Delk of New Kensington, Pennsylvania; and daughter Diana Delk of Fair Oaks, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Lester Franklin (Frank) and Hilma Wall; her five sisters, Clara, Margaret, Mary, Aileen and Evelyn; and her oldest son James II, a disabled veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division.
Edna graduated from Grant Union High School where she was active in the Girl's Athletic Association as an officer and tennis player, and met her husband Jim. She was an avid ice skater, and shared many sessions on the ice with her daughter.
Wife of a career soldier, she was used to frequent moves, often with little notice. Early in her marriage she worked for the U. S. Geological Survey and Cal-Western Life Insurance Company. At the end of her working career she was a church secretary in Arlington, Virginia and Costa Mesa, California. Always an active church member, she was a long time member of Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon. She will be missed by her family and friends, who particularly remember her sweet disposition.
Her funeral with reception to follow will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 25th at the Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church at 11427 Fair Oaks Blvd in Fair Oaks. Interment will follow in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. Donations in her name may be made to the Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church.
