Douglas Merlin Hicke

Emblem

In the gentle embrace of the early autumn mornings, we are called to honor the spirit of Douglas Merlin Hicke, a beloved son, father, brother, and grandfather who took his final bow on September 8, 2024. Born in the golden days of spring on May 23, 1957, Douglas brought joy, laughter, and abundant love to all whose lives he touched. His legacy is woven through the hearts of those who remain, a testament to a life well-lived and deeply cherished.

Douglas was a man of many passions, whose laughter still rings in the memories of his family and friends. He was particularly proud of his role as a devoted father, leaving behind a son, Robert Hicke and step-children, Daniel Albrecht and Kari Albrecht. His fondest moments were often spent sharing life’s lessons and creating cherished memories with his grandchildren, Kaylee, Mackenzie, DeAngelo, Cianna and DeAndre, whose innocent laughter and curious questions lit up his days.

He faced life’s challenges with remarkable resilience, a quality that emanated from his roots. Douglas was the beloved son of the late Wallace and Pearl "Joy" Hicke, and he will be reunited with a circle of family that includes his late wife, Susan Morris-Hicke, always remembered for her enduring love, and siblings Terry, Larry, and Lynette Hicke, the bonds of which could never be undone by mortal hands.

His siblings held a special place in his heart; Lesa and Steven Hicke will continue carrying on his spirit and memories that will continue to burn brightly in the hearts of those who loved him.

The tapestry of Douglas’s life will be woven into the fabric of the many lives he touched, a tapestry rich with love, laughter, and kindness. We find solace in knowing that his spirit will live on in the stories shared, the traditions upheld, and the memories cherished.

A heartfelt visitation will take place on October 2, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Heritage Oaks Memorial Chapel, located at 6920 Destiny Dr, Rocklin, CA 95677. Following this gathering, a committal service will commence at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA, starting at 1:15 PM, where family and friends will bid farewell amidst the tranquil embrace of nature, celebrating a life that has left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

As we gather to remember Douglas Merlin Hicke, let us carry forward his spirit, cherishing the moments shared and honoring a life that continues to inspire love and connection among us all.
