Doreen Margaret La Rosa

Doreen was born on November 24,1933, in East London, England. She was the only child to James and Violet Franklin.  Doreen often jokingly told people that after she was born, they threw away the mold.

Her mother passed away when she was 15 years old and she was raised by her grandmother and Father. In her early childhood years, she witnessed World War II and spent many hours in the air raid shelters.  During this time, Doreen was evacuated to the countryside to be with her aunt and uncle where it was much safer.  She moved back home with her family when the bombing stopped.

After fulfilling her compulsory education requirement, Doreen received her diploma.  She then enrolled in college to further her education at Shoreditch Technical College for Women.  She completed a three-year course majoring in Design Retail Dressmaking. She was employed by the royal family where she sewed clothing for Prince Charles, now known as the King of England. Working for her Majesty was a great experience, but the salary was not very rewarding. Later, she was employed by Emerson Corporation as a secretary, and that suited her very well.

In 1954, a handsome American soldier came to England and was introduced to Doreen. Dan and Doreen courted and fell in love. She later came to America. In 1958 the two were married at the Presbyterian Church in Menlo Park, California. Yes, that's 64 years of marriage.

Together they had one son and one daughter. As a mom, she has instilled good morals, respect, responsibility, and good Christian values to her children the same way she was taught and was accustomed to.

Doreen enjoyed shopping.  She liked to purchase special tools and gadgets that were useful for her cooking and baking. She liked preparing gourmet meals and was a fan of Julia Childs. Her hobbies were knitting, sewing and cooking. She also enjoyed making crafts for the holidays.

Doreen's best friends were Kathy O'Brien (maid of honor), Leta Breeze, Beverly Shuford, and Bonney Schoeoneman.  Her favorite colors were blue and purple.

Doreen accepted JESUS CHRIST as her Personal Savior. She was Baptized at the First Baptist Church in Los Altos, California, where she was a member for over 40 years. There she worshiped with her Heavenly Father and fellowshipped with many Christian friends.  She believed and trusted in her faith.  In her adult Sunday school class, her duty for several years was to raise funds for foreign missionaries. Her reward is in heaven right now. Hallelujah to the Lamb of God.

Doreen is survived by her husband Dan, son Perry, daughter Tina, 6 grandchildren, Joshua, Jordyn, Noah, Christian, Kiersten and Faith, 5 nieces and 4 nephews.
