Deenie Ann Crawley

June 30, 1938 — June 30, 2019

Doreen ("Deenie") Ann Crawley, 81, beloved wife, mother and grannie, passed away on the morning of her birthday, June 30, 2019. She passed away peacefully at her home in Roseville, CA where she was surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born on June 30, 1938 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England to Laura and Stanley Gordon. Deenie was the youngest of three siblings. Her sister, Pamela, predeceased her and her brother, Jimmy, still lives in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

She married her soul mate, Michael Crawley, on August 14, 1964 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. They would have celebrated 55 beautiful years of marriage this year. It was love at first site for Michael when he asked Deenie to dance at the local dance hall in Newcastle; she was 19 years old and he was 17 years old. Six years later, they became engaged while on a romantic trip to London. Deenie spotted a ring in the window of a jewelry shop and when she asked Michael if she could try it on, he responded with, "Only if you marry me," to which she replied, "Yes."

They were blessed with three loving children and six beautiful grandchildren. Deenie's oldest son, Nicholas Crawley, and daughter-in-law, Jeannette Crawley, are parents to Joshua and Tyler. Her first daughter, Jane Orozco, and son-in-law, Michael Orozco, are parents to Amanda and Zachary. Her youngest daughter, Ruth Horn, and son-in-law, Michael Horn, are parents to Anthony and Emily. Deenie is also survived by numerous family members and many dear friends. Although everyone joked about being "the favorite," Deenie truly loved her family with all her heart.

Michael's job brought the family to America in 1977 after first living in England, Scotland, and Holland. Deenie and Mike settled in San Jose, CA, where they would raise their children and grandchildren. In 2013, they officially retired to Roseville, CA where they made many dear friends at the Timber Lodge Club.

Over the years, Deenie became the lead teller at Bank of the West, volunteered her time at the County hospital, and chaired the Villages Volunteer Committee. She organized several memorable volunteer events while living in the Villages, including fashion shows and Fourth of July parades. Deenie was also an incredible homemaker, whether she was hosting her family for a cup of tea or the entire block for a party on Claywood Way.

Deenie was a devoted wife, mother and grannie, an avid reader, shopper, and entertainer. She had an active social life and always wore the sharpest outfits, complete with matching earrings and shoes. She was generous and loved to spoil her grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor and a smile that could light up a room, even through her final days. Deenie was deeply loved and cherished by all who knew her. She will be missed and dearly remembered by her family and friends.
