Daniel Stanley Haviland

Dan was born on January 20, 1956, in Sacramento. He graduated from Del Campo High School in 1974 followed by a year at UC Davis, then transferred to UCLA where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Systems Science. He also met his wife Cathy at UCLA. After supporting Cathy through graduate school in New York, they returned to live in Citrus Heights where Dan did post graduate work at UC Davis in A.I.

Dan was a valued team member at every job he had, from McDonalds to his various roles as a software engineer. Dan worked largely in signal processing for sonar simulations, intraluminal ultrasound, and technology used to block cell phone signals that set off IUDs.

Dan had five children–Mary (husband Malick), Andrew (wife Ally), Claire, Elizabeth (husband Jake), and Patrick–and seven grandchildren. He was known for his easy going personality. Dan had a kind heart and was always ready with a generous smile.

Dan had a brilliant mind and never stopped learning. He enjoyed reading articles about the latest happenings in the mathematics world, and was constantly watching videos about physics, A.I., and rocket boosters. Dan could frequently be found reading a sci-fi book, and he and his wife enjoyed watching basketball and football.

Dan was devoted to his family and had a deep faith in God.
