CLARA KATHERINE MASSIE

Clara Katherine Massie, a beloved matriarch whose life spanned nearly a century, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, in Franklin, Tennessee, surrounded by family and caregivers she cherished deeply. Born on January 4, 1928, in Bakersfield, California, Clara was a captivating spirit from the very beginning, touching the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

Clara, known during her formative years as Clara K. Camenish, graduated from high school in Bakersfield, where her dedication and enthusiasm earned her the GOLD STAR achievement award. While she did not pursue higher education, this early accolade paved the way for her first job at SMUD, a local utility company. Clara's journey took a heartful turn when she married her high school sweetheart, Charles T. Massie, on October 26, 1946. Together, they created a legacy not only through their love but also by building a real estate development company that continues to thrive to this day.

The couple faced profound hardships, including the tragic passing of their first son, Randy, in a construction accident on November 23, 1984. She was also faced with the heartache of losing Charles unexpectedly on August 16, 1988, at the age of 60. Yet, through the years, Clara remained a beacon of strength and independence, endearing herself to countless friends and family members who found inspiration in her unwavering faith and tenacity.

Clara was deeply involved in her church community, where she fostered lifelong friendships with co-laborers for Christ. Her faith was a steadfast foundation in her life, deeply influencing her relationships and the way she loved those around her. Although she was private about her beliefs, there was an undeniable warmth and light that emanated from her as you got to know her.

As Clara transitioned into her later years, she remained actively engaged in her passions. Up until four years ago, Clara meticulously managed her own books, tracking properties and notes with a determination that showcased her remarkable independence and intellect.

Clara is survived by her son, Rick Massie; her daughters-in-law, Debbie Massie and Elizabeth "Betty" Massie, widow of her late son Randy; her cherished grandchildren, Ryan and Monica Massie, Kelly and Chris Tomaszewski, Amy and Jeremy Bangs, Michael and Janie Massie; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Rylee Tomaszewski, Reese Tomaszewski, Natalie and Max Loorem, Westin Massie, CR Massie, Merrick Massie, Isla Massie, Addison and Mason Cochran, and Ainsley Bangs. Her great-great-grandchild, Baird Loorem, will also carry forward her legacy.

A celebration of Clara's extraordinary life will be held on June 26, 2025, from 11:00 AM at Heritage Oaks Memorial Chapel in Rocklin, California. Family and friends are invited to gather as they honor and remember a woman whose spirit will undoubtedly continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable journey.
