Charles Edward "Ed" Hargrove

August 10, 1950 — January 7, 2015

Charles Edward "Ed" Hargrove, 64, of Rocklin, California, passed away at Kaiser Hospital in Roseville on Wednesday, January 7, 2015.

A memorial service for Ed will be held from 5-8pm on Tuesday, January 13 at Heritage Oaks Memorial Chapel at 6920 Destiny Drive in Rocklin. Pastor Kenneth C. Rowley of Lincoln Christian Life Center will officiate. Ed will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered by his daughter in San Francisco Bay, a place he always loved to visit.

Ed was born on August 10, 1950 in Compton, California to Benjamin and Helen Doris (King) Hargrove. He graduated from John Glenn High School in Norwalk, California in 1968 and continued his studies at Norwalk's Cerritos Junior College. After college he lived in Oroville, California, but soon moved to Loomis, where he spent most of his adult life. He moved to Rocklin in 2005 and lived his remaining years in Rocklin Estates.

Although Ed was employed as a service writer and manager at several auto dealerships throughout California during his career, his greatest professional accomplishment was serving as a volunteer firefighter in both Butte and Placer counties. He won several awards during his time as a firefighter, including "Firefighter of the Year" in 1983 from the Kelly Ridge Volunteers. He achieved the rank of Battalion Chief at the Loomis Fire Department, where he was number 1804.

Besides his work with the fire department, Ed loved traveling around California. He enjoyed camping in the redwoods, playing the slots in Reno, and taking the train to San Francisco for clam chowder by the bay. He also loved cats, especially his boys Taylor and Rocky. He spent a lot of his time checking in on friends, neighbors, and relatives, and took pride in helping people as often as he could. He had recently become a Certified Peer Visitor with Amputee Empowerment Partners visiting new amputees to help counsel them through the process. An avid baker, several of his friends looked forward to receiving batches of his special cookies; he was also a terrific gardener who loved sharing fruits and vegetables from his garden with neighbors.

Ed is survived by his daughter Shauna Hargrove of Seattle, Washington, and his brother Lee Hargrove of Mountain View, Arkansas.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
