Bruce Glenn Purvis was born on October 4th, 1932, in Molalla, Oregon. His parents were Robert and Agnes Purvis. He also had two sisters, Patty and Jean, and spent his childhood in Oregon. He joined the Navy when he was 17 years old and retired 20 years later and lived around the world. His service included the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was very proud of his service.
Bruce met his wife, Christine, while he was stationed at Glenview Naval Air Station. They were married in 1958. The lived in Italy, Illinois, New Mexico, Hawaii, and finally settled in San Jose, California in 1965.
He was a proud father of his three children, Sonja, Robert, and Jolene, as well as his son-in-law, Rick. He was “Bampa” to his 4 granddaughters, Jenna, Krista, Marissa, and Kaitlyn. And he was blessed with 7 great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Emmelyn, Isabella, Trace, Karli, Arya, and Elliet. His family was very important to him.
Bruce was very active at Christian Community Church in San Jose and ran the Caring Center for many years with his wife, Christine. There he spent countless hours preparing food for those in need as well as ministering to the homeless and to prison inmates.
He also loved to study the Bible and share God’s word with others. He often had Bible study with his granddaughters. He also had a love and talent for writing and always had a yellow legal pad nearby!
Bruce and Christine moved to Rocklin in 2003, and when he was no longer able to drive his car, you could find him on his motorized scooter driving all over Rocklin, but especially to Raley’s, Starbucks, and Edwin’s. Christine passed away in 2016 after 57 years of marriage and Bruce always said it wasn’t enough time.
He lived in his home in Rocklin until he went to meet the Lord on February 8, 2022. What a glorious day it was to meet God and see his wife again. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, but he will live on in our hearts.
