Barbara Joy Fossum, 80, of Rocklin, CA, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017 at home with family.
She was born Aug. 4, 1936 in Idaho Falls, ID, daughter of Ariel L. Olsen and Emma Victoria Johnson Olsen.
Barbara spent her early years in Milo, ID and Bakersfield, CA. She attended Brigham Young University and graduated in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
She was married to Lawrence Embert Fossum from 1958 to 1973.
She was always a working woman. After graduating She worked as a teacher at Hiram Johnson High School in Sacramento, then worked at Aerojet in Sacramento. When the family moved to Alaska, Barbara worked at the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska. Upon returning to Sacramento, she started with Cal-Western Life Insurance in 1969 and stayed when American General acquired them. She enjoyed a very successful career with them, including 2 relocations; Houston, Texas and Springfield, Illinois. She retired as a senior vice president at American General in 2000.
She was a member of The Church of Latter Day Saints. She enjoyed traveling; visiting over 22 countries and 49 states, being with her family and grandchildren, volunteering with the Humanitarian group at her church, and her water aerobics class.
She is survived by her children: Kay Lynne Maneatis (James) of Granite Bay, Stephen Lawrence Fossum of Elverta, Teri Fossum Jones (Michael) of Humble, Texas; brother, Lowell V. Olsen of Punta Gorda, Fla; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dee J. Olsen; sister, Emma Eulala Hanks; brother Ariel Lamar Olsen; and husband Lawrence Embert Fossum.
